Assistant conductors have been introduced this year by Rob Guy to give more students from the university the opportunity to develop their conducting skills. They will be taking sectionals, assisting rehearsals in Rob’s absence, and taking warm-ups.
Josh Hill
Josh Hill is a third-year music student and first-study singer at The University of Manchester. Being last year’s Chorus President, this year Josh is part the Chorus team again as a Chorus Assistant, leading warm ups, and helping to conduct the choir during rehearsals and in concerts under the tutelage of Robert Guy, alongside Alanis and Isabelle. Josh studied on the conducting module at University last year where he covered a range of repertoire, ending with an assessment conducting Stravinsky’s A Soldier’s Tale. Josh is also a Baritone under the tuition of Andrew Heggie and has been part of choirs since childhood, singing with the Armonico Consort choir and, last year, with The University of Manchester’s Cosmo Singers on their choir tour to Dublin and Belfast.
Alanis Dalledone
Alanis Dalledone, a second-year student at the University of Manchester, is a dedicated pianist and aspiring conductor. During her gap year, she ventured into conducting, leading the Senior Choir and Accapella Choir at her secondary school, as well as directing the sixth-form production of ‘The Addams Family’ in the role of Musical Director. As Assistant Chorus Conductor, she aims to bring her insightful musical ideas to the choir with clarity and finesse. Beyond music, Alanis like to takes part in dance competitions across the country. As she continues her journey, she looks forward to refining her conducting skills, exploring new repertoire and creating impactful performances.
Isabelle Hussey
Isabelle Hussey is a 3rd year Music student studying at the University of Manchester. She is a First study Flautist and 2nd study singer. Isabelle has been a member of many Choirs since childhood and throughout University. For the last 2 years, she has been a member of Chorus and the University of Manchester’s Cosmo Singers and was a part of their Choir tour to Dublin and Belfast. Last year Isabelle was Secretary for Chorus and this year she will join the team again as one of the Chorus assistants, alongside Josh and Alanis. Throughout the year she will help lead warmups and conduct the choir. Under Robert Guys guidance, Isabelle looks forward to refining her conducting technique and to be a part of Chorus’s outstanding performances
